History
History of The Word Community Church
The Word Community Church started in January 1999 as a Southern Baptist Mission Church Plant lead by Pastor Calvin McMullen and family and sponsored by the Georgia Baptist Convention, Atlanta Baptist Association, and Green Forest Baptist Church of Decatur, Georgia. The mission started as a bible study in the home of Dr. Robert Morgan located in Sparta, Georgia. It moved in its first building, the old Henderson Grocery Store, located in the Hunts Hill Community and named Hancock Community Baptist Church.
After three years of ministry, the mission moved to Milledgeville, Georgia. The mission leased the Old Boddie Middle School property in August of 2003 and later purchased the property in July of 2005. The name changed to Community Life Baptist Church and constituted as a former church in 2005.
The Church became the first African American Church accepted by the Washington Baptist Association.
The Church was renamed “The Word Community Church” in 2010. The church’s denomination is Baptist and is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
